An ICT enabled integrated healthcare system leverages achieving all kinds of interoperability including process ( clinical knowledge and workflow, standard care process and recording , quality assurance and accreditation  ) , technical ( hardware , information systems architecture, messaging , protocols , models and methods , Safety , privacy  & confidentiality ) , and semantic (coding , terminologies , concepts ,  interfacing knowledge representation ) , using standards .

The MEAHI STC 2015  specifically aims to explore the challenges and solutions for an integrated healthcare service using information and communication technology ( ICT) based on regional needs and MEAHI inspired strategy : “ Better Health Through Better Information“.

The theme of the MEAHI STC 2015 is “Standards and Interoperability in Healthcare Informatics “.During this 3-day conference, and in regard to the conference theme, the topics which will be considered are as the followings (but not limited to):

• Healthcare Informatics standards varieties , their development and deployment challenges and role of international organizations

• E-Health Interoperability and Standards from policy to practice , the challenges and solutions

• Health Information Exchanges (HIE) Challenges , Standards and Solutions in local , national and regional (cross border) settings

• Health and Biomedical Knowledge Representation Standards

• Electronic Patient Records (EPR) standards ( architecture , structure , format …)

• Electronic Health Records (EHR) Interoperability Standards

• Clinical Informatics and standard practice , the roles and impacts on interoperability for an integrated healthcare services 

• Nursing Informatics and standard practice , the roles and impacts on interoperability for an integrated healthcare services 

• Semantic Interoperability standards and Ontology engineering in Electronic Health Records   ( EHR ) and Nursing Informatics

• Health 3.0 opportunities , challenges and impacts on healthcare settings

• mHealth interoperability and opportunities for longitudinal Electronic Health Records ( EHR )

• Ubiquitous Healthcare Services and mHealth solutions opportunities

• Innovative Ambulatory Care services and integrated e-Health solutions

• Wearable Medical Devices interoperability challenges , standards and solutions

• Safety , Privacy and Security challenges and solutions in interoperable EHR

• Big Data and interoperability standards in E-Health Solutions

• Cloud commuting interoperability and E-Health Solutions

• The impacts of interoperable E-Health solutions from economical, technical, and managerial perspectives on providing innovative healthcare services.

 

The MEAHI STC 2015 will take place on 15-17 December 2015, at Health Sciences Center, KUWAIT University, Kuwait. The official language of the conference is English.

 

The MEAHI STC 2015 is organized to provide the diverse opportunities for contribution by submitting proposals for papers, panels, posters, software applications’ demonstrations, tutorials, and hands-on workshops with the following details: 



Paper: A full paper is an original contribution with novel methodologies or new insights that advance the science and application of biomedical and health informatics. Each full paper must be no more than five pages in length and must conform to the MEDINFO 2015 paper format requirements. Accepted papers will be presented as oral presentations at the conference.

 

Panel:  Submissions for panels should include an outline of the objectives of the panel and an overview of the discussion topic. Topics for panels should include an in depth analysis of an issue or identification of emerging issues in biomedical and health informatics. Panels should include not more than four presenters. Preference will be given to the panels with presenters from multiple countries or perspectives. All speakers on the panel must be listed on the three pages submission. Panel submissions are limited to three pages and must conform to the MEDINFO 2015 panel format.

 

Poster: A poster illustrates pilot research, research in progress, or the design of a system or process, with a clear statement of the degree of innovation. Each poster must be submitted as a one-page abstract and must conform to the MEDINFO 2015 poster format. Accepted abstracts will be presented as posters at the conference.

 

Software Applications’ Demonstration: A demonstration highlights an innovative, non-commercial system resulting from research or private-public efforts. A demonstration proposal should clearly describe the system/process to be demonstrated and provide a clear statement of the innovation. Each demonstration proposal must be no more than three pages in length and must conform to the MEDINFO 2015 demonstration proposal format. Accepted proposals will be presented through the conference exhibition.

 

Tutorial: A tutorial is an education session that introduces a specific topic in  biomedical and health informatics. A tutorial usually involves 1 or 2 180-minute sessions, with 1-3 instructors. A tutorial proposal should list the instructors’ affiliations, the target audience, pre-requisite knowledge, a set of learning objectives and expected outcomes, a summary of the topics to be covered, and the interactive strategies to engage the audience. Each tutorial proposal must be no more than three pages in length and must conform to the MEDINFO 2015 tutorial proposal format. Note that Tutorials will be held in the Pre-Conference Day (15 December 2015) with additional registration fee.

 

Workshop: A hands-on workshop is an informative or interactive session that addresses a specific theme or topic in biomedical and health informatics. A workshop involves 1 or 2 90-minute sessions, with 4-5 main speakers who introduce the main topics and other active participants. A workshop proposal should list the main speakers affiliations, the target participants, a summary of the topics to be covered, and the proposed activities and expected outcomes, e.g., oral presentations, posters, and break-out sessions, etc. Each workshop proposal must be no more than three pages in length and must conform to the MEDINFO 2015 workshop proposal format. Note that Workshops will be held in the Pre-Conference Day (15 December 2015) with additional registration fee.

 

General submission guidelines​

 

• All submissions will be reviewed by the conference SPC (Scientific Program Committee). 

• All submissions must be in English and must conform to the prescribed submission guidelines and formats. Over-length papers or papers that are not following the prescribed submission format may be rejected without review or asked to resubmit.

• Accepted contributions may be asked to be converted to single-page abstracts and presented as posters.

• All submissions must be made online by the online submission form .

• Accepted contributions can only be included in the final conference program, if at least one author registers for the conference by the registration deadline at the regular fee and commits to presenting the work.
