Traveling to Kuwait City

 

The national airline, Kuwait Airways, serves Frankfurt, Geneva, Rome, London, New York, Kuala Lumpur, and Paris as well as several other European, Asian, African and Middle Eastern destinations.

International airlines serving Kuwait include British Airways from London, United Airlines from Washington, D.C., Lufthansa from Frankfurt, KLM from Amsterdam, Singapore Airlines from Singapore, Thai Air from Bangkok ,Turkish Airlines from Istanbul, a few Iranian Airlines      (from Mashad and Tehran) plus connections through other large regional hubs (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, etc) are accessible through Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airlines, Gulf Air and many other airlines, There are also some airlines that operate seasonal flights to Kuwait including Malaysia Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, Bulgaria Air and Czech Airlines.

Airport taxis can be found outside arrivals, with the fare to most points in the city being KWD5. Most hotels can arrange a transfer for the same price if not free of charge, which is probably a safer and more comfortable option. When in operation, you can also use the "limousine" service which is located to the right of the outside exit for KWD6. 

Kuwait shares its borders with only 2 countries - Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The political situation in Iraq is volatile currently, so it's advisable not to use that route. One can take King Fahad Bin Abdul Road (40) from Saudi to reach Kuwait. Female Saudi citizens must take permission from their legal guardian to drive in Kuwait.

TOURIST VISA TO THE (GCC) RESIDENTS TO ENTER TO KUWAIT

Upon instructions from the directorate general of immigration in ministry of interior, it has been decided to permit GCC residents (except Iraqi nationals) to enter the state of Kuwait and will be issued with a tourist visa from the visas counter at Kuwait international airport valid for three months temporary residence provided the following conditions are fulfilled :

• The profession of the arriving passenger is one of this professions : Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, Teacher, Judge, Consultant, Members of Public Prosecution, University Teacher, Journalist, Press & Media Staff, Pilot, System Analyst, Pharmacist, Computer Programmer, Manager, Businessman, Diplomatic Corps, Owners, Managers & Representative of Commercial Companies & Establishments, University Graduates.

• passenger should be holding a proper passport and not lasses passe or temporary travel document.

• passenger should be holding a passport and GCC residence permit valid for more than six month from the date of travel to Kuwait.

• passenger should not be black listed in the state of Kuwait.

• passenger should hold a return ticket.

• passenger should register his residence address in Kuwait when applying for the visa at visas counter at the airport.

52 COUNTRIES GRANTING ENTRY VISA UPON THEIR ARRIVAL TO KUWAIT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Upon the instructions of the ministry of interior, nationals of the following countries shall be granted the entry visas to the state of Kuwait upon their arrival to Kuwait international airport:-

• All passengers must be in position of return ticket.

• The concerned authorities in the state of Kuwait shall reserve the right to refuse admitting any person into the country without explanation.

• Passenger should not be black listed in the state of Kuwait.

• Passenger should be holding a passport valid for more than six month from the date of travel to Kuwait.

• Passenger should register his residence address in Kuwait when applying for the visa at visas counter at the airport.

Currency & Money In Kuwait

 

Currency information: 

Kuwait Dinar (KWD) = 1,000 fils. Notes are in denominations of KWD20, 10, 5 and 1, and 500 and 250 fils. Coins are in denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 fils. The best exchange rates appear to be for US dollars, Australian dollars and Euros.

Credit cards: 

American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa are accepted.

Travellers cheques: 

Widely accepted. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in US Dollars or Pounds Sterling.

Banking hours: 

Sun-Thurs 0800-1200/1230.

Currency restriction: 

There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency. However, amounts exceeding KWD3,000 or equivalent must be declared.

Kuwait duty free

The following goods may be imported into Kuwait without incurring customs duty:

• 500 cigarettes or 900g of tobacco.

Banned imports: 

Alcohol, drugs, unsealed milk products, unsealed salty fish, unsealed olives and pickles, food prepared abroad, fresh vegetables, shellfish and its products, fresh figs and mineral water. Penalties for attempting to smuggle restricted items are severe.
